Dad Moves: Teenagers can suck and that's ok
Dealing the moody teens year is tough but we can get through it.
“Good morning” says me to my teen
“What?!!” He replies
“You have to empty the dishwasher” I remind my teen
“Ya I know! You don’t have to remind me!”
Dishwasher never gets emptied. He then says “You never told me to do that. Oh yeah, well if you did how come you can’t just remind me”
I’m convinced the face palm emoji exists for parents to express their frustration over their teens. It’s a special age when your kid wants to be treated and respected as an adult, yet doesn’t exhibit the maturity or responsibility of an adult. Is it normal to want to throw your teen through a brick wall? Yes, yes it is. Can we? No, we can’t.
Enter the teen relationship. Once your teen gets into a relationship we bring the teen drama up to full volume
My teen has been “in love” for nearly 8 months now. The drama level is at Romeo and Juliet heights. If he doesn’t see his girlfriend for a few days it’s like he’s in prison and I’m the evil warden. If I ask him how his day was, where I used to get an enthusiastic run down I now get “Fine!”. If the girlfriend asks any question at all his reply might as well be “My bounty is as boundless as the sea,My love as deep, the more I give to thee”.
In one word they’re maddening. I still get glimpses of the young kid that used to exist before this know it all took his place. It’s a tough phase but I’m glad I have this forum to piss and moan about it. Well, I have to go pick up my teen from football camp where I’m sure he will say “Gee, Dad I had a great time, let’s hang out and talk about life” 😬
